Travel Review: Club Med Bintan Island

Wendy Smiljan and her family recently visited Club Med Bintan. Here she reviews their stay:

Tell us a little bit about your family

We are a family of 5 from Sydney, Australia. Altogether 2 adults and 3 children aged 7, 5 and 2 years old.

What were your first impressions when you arrived at Club Med Bintan?

We thought the resort looked amazing and the staff courteous and friendly. The kids were already excited about the fact a bus picked us up from the ferry terminal and couldn’t wait to explore what the resort had to offer. We were greeted upon arrival with a nice cool drink and very friendly staff that gave us a brief orientation. Our bags were taken directly from the bus to the room so we didn’t need to worry and could relax and take our time deciding what to do first.

Club Med Bintan

You enjoy exercise and fitness and Bintan has lots of options. What did you try personally?

There were so many options to choose from. When I got a chance I tried aerial yoga, golf lessons at the school and boot camp. My husband went on a half-day golf trip with an excellent instructor, Justice, at the Ria Bintan championship course. As a family we tried tennis, archery, flying trapeze, aqua aerobics, futsal, bocce, jet skiing and, of course, lots of swimming.

What did the kids enjoy the most?

The swimming pool was the most popular activity. Since the bars had a kids’ menu they were able to order their favourite drinks and relax by the pool all day.

Did the kids enjoy the kids’ club (if they used it)?

Our two eldest children tried Mini Club for 1 day. However they both preferred staying with us swimming at the pool and trying activities as a family.

Tell us about the staff.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. All members were happy to help if we needed assistance, and were just generally welcoming which made our experience relaxing and enjoyable.

Did you use any other facilitates e.g. the spa?

Unfortunately, we didn’t get time to experience the Wellness Retreat but it is definitely on our list for next time.

Tell us about the food!

The food was amazing. We loved the variety of dishes available from different countries. Every night there was a different menu for each area which kept it interesting. We tried so many different foods we had never eaten before, and it was always fresh and replenished when needed. The food was definitely a highlight! The kids loved it as well.

Have you ever done all-inclusive before? Please share your thoughts and the benefits vs cons.

This was our first all-inclusive experience. It was great we didn’t have to worry about how much we were spending. We could relax and experience most things at the resort without thinking about how much our bill would be at the end of the holiday. The variety of activities and food covered under the all inclusive package was fantastic. The only downside was that we couldn’t order food outside of restaurant hours. Bar snacks would have made it perfect as our kids are always hungry.

Would you recommend Club Med to others? If so, for what specific reasons?

Yes, we would definitely recommend Club Med to others. The staff, resort activities, food and all-inclusive deals are what we found most enjoyable and worth it.

Have you looked at their other locations? Do you have another resort on your list to visit?

We would definitely like to try Club Med Bali and some of the ski resorts at some point in the near future. Bintan Island is also one we would love to come back to!
