Top 5 Pram Walks in Sydney

Top 5 Pram Walks in Sydney

There are so many beautiful pram walks around Sydney, some complete with ocean views, cafés, parks, playgrounds and even ducks! If you’re a new mum and keen to get outdoors, grab a group of mum friends and get strolling round one of these gorgeous locations:

1. Narrabeen Lagoon Circuit

Distance: 8.5km loop
Terrain: flat, gravel in part, water views

Because who doesn’t love a circular walk?! There’s a café, bubblers, a playground and ducks galore on the way round the edge of this Northern Beaches lagoon – what more does a weary mum in need of fresh air need? Forested sections keep it cool and shady and views open out regularly across the dreamy still water. As the kiddies get older, this one makes a great day out for the whole family too – load up the bikes and cycle a lap or two, stopping for a quick kayak and lunch halfway round.

2. Manly to Shelly Beach

Distance: 2km return (optional add-on to Manly Lagoon: 3km return; North Harbour Reserve: 4km return)
Terrain: mostly flat, paved, ocean and beach views

Having adopted Manly as Buggy Bootcamp’s home, we may be a little biased on this one, but we honestly believe there is nowhere better for a maternity-leave pram push. Soak in those ocean views, mumma!

After heading out and back on the path that clings to the edge of the Cabbage Tree Bay marine reserve to the world-renowned Shelly Beach, extend your walk along the main ocean beach to Manly Lagoon and Queenscliff Beach (the local’s beach!) or head harbour-side along the start of the Spit to Manly walkway.

3. Bay Run, Iron Cove

Distance: 7km loop
Terrain: flat, paved, bay views

Explore one of the Inner West’s gems on this waterside loop. Start and finish at any point and throw down the picnic rug at any one of the numerous parks along the way. This route is a favourite amongst locals and visitors alike and is always alive with runners, joggers, walkers, rollerbladers, cyclists and buggies. Join the pilgrimage!

4. City Foreshore: Woolloomooloo to Darling Harbour

Distance: 9km one way
Terrain: paved, mostly flat, city-scapes and harbour panoramas

One pram-friendly walk that takes in the Opera House, the Harbour Bridge, the Botanic Gardens, wharves galore, theatres, the newly opened Barangaroo precinct, city skylines and harbour views – yep, this one has it all! Cover it all in one epic day out in Sydney or break it up into bite-sized chunks. If you have a tired toddler in tow, hop on the Choo Choo Express for an educational ride around the garden section and keep them going with promises of the fab water-play park in Darling Harbour.

5. Fairfax Heritage Track, Govett’s Leap Look-out, Blackheath

Distance: 2km one way
Terrain: paved, gradual descent, native bushland and valley views

Ok, admittedly it’s not quite in Sydney but what Sydneysider doesn’t love escaping to the awe-inspiring Blue Mountains once in a while?

There’s no need to be put off venturing to this part of the bush whilst you’ve got littlies in tow either. Whilst many of the trails obviously aren’t pram friendly, there are heaps of easily accessible look-out points and many paved paths in the more touristy Katoomba spots. This one though is a little off the beaten track – start at the Govett’s Leap visitor centre and gradually zig zag down to one of the best panoramic views in the area. This is the closest feeling to ‘going bush’ whilst still on tarmac there is.

This trail was sadly burnt in the December 2019 bushfires. However, as at the time of writing in early 2020, the path was open and there were already signs of regrowth. Whilst it isn’t the walk through dense native bush it once was, it is still worthwhile to see the impact/scale of the fires and the majestic valley views remain. Plus, you can support the local area whilst you visit #gowithemptyeskies
